Lot many people don’t know the procedure of creating backup and how to restore back the website , Hence here I am going to explain a very simple and easiest way to backup and restore your website if it has been created using wordpress .
If your are using wordpress for your blog / website , then its plugins had made it really very easy to create a backup and restore the backup in just 1 click , without any technical knowledge of using hosting control panel . As of now there are several wordpress plugins are developed by WP Developers for backup and restore of your website , in which few only take the backup of only database and few take backup of website but not database , and even some if take the backup of both , then they don’t have option to restore the database file and website files. Even if you find this option as well in some plugin then it may require some technical knowledge for restoration .
But I am going to discuss about a wordpress backup and restore plugin called – WP BACKUP , which just create and restore backup in 1 click . The other feature about this plugin is it automatically takes backup of your website and database both and either email you or either send it to your dropbox , which you can download it to your computer latter on . The restoration process is also very simple and it restore the database as well as complete website in just 1 click on Restore button. This plugin is free to use.
Procedure to use the plugin for taking backup of your complete website & database :
- Login to the backend of your website and enter the dashboard of your blog/website.
- Go to plugins option and click on add new plugin , in the search box just type “wp backup” and make a search you will find lot of plugins which can be used for creating backup and restore , but you select the WP BACKUP plugin , more more easy in understanding please watch the video tutorial at the end of this page. Now click on install button and activate the plugin.
- Now you need to go to settings of the plugin as shown in video tutorial below , and enable the plugin first , if you want to take backup to your dropbox then enter your dropbox id and attach it with plugin so that this plugin could automatically send you backups in your dropbox account. and save the settings , if you don’t want to take a backup in dropbox then its ok because it is optional .
- Now go to backup configuration of the plugin , here you will be asked to choose that you are willing to get the backup of only database or only website , or both database and website , you choose here both DB & website . Now it will ask you to schedule your backups , wether you will like to generate backup daily , or weekly or monthly etc , select as per the frequency you update your blog or website. Now it will ask you to save maximum how many backups in record for restoration , choose as depending upon you and save the settings.
- Suppose if you wish to generate backup right now , you click on the start button available there as shown in video , it will take some time depending upon your website size and bring the zip file in front of you to download in to your computer at the same time it will also send a backup copy to your drop box and if the backup size is less than 10 mb , it will also email you automatically . This zip file contains the complete backup of your wordpress website as well as your database file .
Procedure of Restoring back the Website & Database backup by using this plugin :
- If your website / blog has minor problem / issue and if you are able to access your wordpress backend dashboard , thene it is extremely easy , you just need to go to plugins option click on WP BACKUP plugin settings , you will find there your latest backup file , infront of your backup file you will find the option – RESTORE , click on this button , it will take some time in restoring the database and website back to the same date of which the backup is taken.
- But if your website has some major issue and you are not able to login to your backend dashboard , then you have to go to your hosting control panel for restoring back the backup file and complete website file. Don’t get afraid by the name of hosting control panel , The process is quit simple follow the 2nd video tutorial at the bottom of this page or follow the steps below .
